Save the Panther 5K - The Palm Beach Zoo - Big Cat Race Series - The Florida Wildlife CorridorThe Palm Beach Zoo will continue its Big Cat Race Series on Saturday, January 9 when the third annual Save the Panther 5K. The race begins at 7:30 a.m. and begins at the zoo parking lot, snakes through Dreher Park, and enters the zoo on its western flank. Runners will zip by Tiger Valley, bound by the wallaby viewing station, and streak by fennec foxes, ocelots, and more as they make their way to the finish line at the Interactive Fountain for a cool down. Race registration includes free zoo admission for the runner and three half-off coupons for friends and family.

The Big Cat Race Series helps raise awareness for three of the zoo’s animal ambassadors: the Florida panther, the Malayan Tiger, and the jaguar, with proceeds from each race supporting field projects designed to help protect the respective species. January’s race, which is dedicated to the Florida panther, will help benefit The Florida Wildlife Corridor, which aims to “connect, protect, and restore corridors of conserved lands and waters essential for the survival of Florida’s diverse wildlife,” including vital panther habitat in Southwest Florida.

On January 30, Susan G. Komen South Florida will host the twenty-fifth annual Race for the Cure in downtown West Palm Beach. Part of the largest, most successful education and fundraising events for breast cancer ever created—worldwide—the 5K race brings the community together to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research and treatment, as well as to remember the lives lost, honor survivors, and help give encouragement to those currently battling breast cancer.

2016’s goal is to raise $1 million, which will help fund breast cancer health education and breast cancer screening and treatment programs within the community, as well as helping fund breast cancer research on a national level (up to 75 percent of the funds raised stays within the community, with the remaining going to Komen’s national research and grant programs).
