Ever wonder what to do with old earrings, necklaces, rings, and bracelets you just don’t wear anymore? Now through December 21, you can donate those pieces in the hope of giving birth to new works of wearable art.
Ethical Metalsmiths, a group of caring buyers, jewelers, designers, and suppliers, is bringing its Radical Jewelry Makeover program to South Florida. The organization has partnered with Lighthouse ArtCenter, Armory Art Center, and Resource Depot to invite locals to donate their unwanted jewelry that will then be repurposed into new pieces.
Ethical Metalsmiths aims to encourage social change that values jewelry made from ethically sourced materials. Currently, so much of the raw materials used to make jewelry are sourced from the world’s poorest countries and come at a severe cost to the environment. By prioritizing remade jewelry, Ethical Metalsmiths and its Radical Jewelry Makeover program seeks to revolutionize how designers and consumers think about jewelry.
You can drop off your donations through December 21 at Lighthouse ArtCenter in Tequesta, Armory Art Center in West Palm Beach, Resource Depot in West Palm Beach, and Jewelry Creations Workshop in North Miami. Area jewelry students and professionals will then transform the materials into new creations, which will be on display at Lighthouse ArtCenter March 19 to April 24. Donors will receive discount coupons to use toward purchasing a new piece.
