Our Editors Teach a Lesson in A-Grade Back to School Shoes

It’s long been said that the arrival of fall marks the return of “real dressing.” That doesn’t mean dressing well comes easy in the colder months, though. The Highsnobiety Fall Fit Toolkit is here to help you through the transition to (literally) bigger and better clothing.

Back to School season is a nervy time by all accounts. But aside from the new faces, unfamiliar places, and the return of the dreaded commute, there are things to get excited for when it comes to returning to classrooms, lecture halls, or your office desk, particularly after an eternity of WFH. Getting off new fits is obviously top of that list for all of us here at Highsnobiety.

With fresh notebooks and backpacks already ticked off the B2S shopping checklist, in today’s class, we’re turning our attention to big boy shoes that look smart and let you feel it. With the common laws of school, college, or corporation dress codes in mind, we rounded up some of our favorite Back to School shoes around right now, from Margiela to Marni. Even if they do happen to push the rules a little (or, in some cases, a lot).

Jake Indiana, Senior Features Editor: “Socks or barefoot?”

Louis Almond, Style Editor: “Always socks, I don’t want to see toes at the office.”

Herbert Hofmann, Creative Director: “At that price, you can’t afford a pedicure either.”

Louis: “You can buy an accessory for these that’s basically a snow tread for your feet. I’m into the upgrades for your school shoes concept.”

Herbert: “I think Camper is doing an amazing job with their new creative director and designer. Keeps on hitting the sweet spot.”

Jake: “It looks like a Croc from a distance.”

Herbert: “Kinky.”

Louis: “I actually like this one. It’s like, school shoes 2.0.”

Yulia Pankova, Market Editor: “I love Marni and Mary Janes, but I’m sorry — I don’t like this.”

Herbert: “I must say, if I met someone that was wearing those, I would be very respectful.”

Jake: “Perfect for Back to School, then!”

Jake: “These are definitely more slipper vibes rather than ‘I’m going to school.'”

Herbert: “They look good enough to eat.”

Louis: “For the classroom cowboy.”

Yulia: “These are my favorite.”

Jake: “So classy.”

Herbert: “I think you can even step on the back and wear them as slippers. Also, it’s actually quite sexy to show a bit of skin where you usually don’t show skin with your shoes, as a man.”

Yulia: “For me, this is a better version of a Clark’s Wallabee.”

Herbert: “I’m just not sure who would wear these.”

Jake: “Someone who wants to be a bit taller.”

Herbert: “Very sexy. Wearing a very simple outfit, such as natural-colored pants, with those boots — that’s a statement.”

Yulia: “Love the name.”

Yulia: “With the right pants I see these working as a formal shoe.”

Yulia: “They look like The North Face mules.”

Louis: “Yeah…just ten times the price. I’m over WFH shoes now.”
