Editor’s Notes: Rounding out the year without another New Balance sneaker wouldn’t be right, given the brand’s near dominance of the release calendar throughout this year.
From start to finish, some of the year’s best collaborations have touched down courtesy of NB, particularly through the 990x series, 2002R, and 327 models.
Should you require a quick refresher on just how extensive the New Balance lineup has been this year, some of the best include The Basement, Todd Snyder, DTLR, Stray Rats, Casablanca, and Aimé Leon Dore.
Though 990 models have been the most frequent choice for collaborations, Casablanca’s efforts with the 327 have made the silhouette one of the brand’s most popular sneakers, and for good reason.
Its next remix is a family-first creation from Brazilian designer Felipe Matayoshi, through his brand PACE.
Dubbed “The Pacer,” the sneaker is meant as a homage to Felipe’s Japanese heritage, friends, and family.
This begins with the sneaker’s insoles, which boast an illustration of Matayoshi’s friend Taiyu Eto, a breakdancer and illustrator from Osaka, Japan.
Its construction features several fabrications, including nylon and soft leather in an understated palette of white and gum. Subtle touches of red appear on the heel tab and tongue logo, referencing the Japanese sport, Gateball, which is played with red balls.
