Honoring a legacy: The disappearance of my son, Perry, and his close friend in July 2015 affected not only our community but so many families and individuals from all over the world. My husband, Nicholas Korniloff, and I have worked tirelessly to honor and carry on Perry’s legacy by establishing the Perry J. Cohen Foundation to support what he was most passionate about: the arts, teenage entrepreneurship, boating safety education, and environmental, marine, and wildlife education and preservation. Community impact: The PJCF is transforming an existing water retention pond at the entrance of Jupiter Community High School into the Perry J. Cohen Wetlands Laboratory and Habitat. The design includes an outdoor classroom that was constructed this past November, a dock with stairs into the water, and an ADA boardwalk into the deepest part of the pond. Support system: The global arts community has been there for us since the very early days of this tragedy. Many of our clients and artists who knew Perry since he was a little boy have donated their time and works of art to support a gala dinner and live art auction in March. As a tribute, Shepard Fairey, one of Perry’s favorite artists, created and donated a beautiful portrait logo of Perry for the foundation. Artists she collects: Jeff Koons, Haydie Safie, Udo Nöger, Shepard Fairey, Doug Argue, Jean-François Rauzier, and many others Treasured keepsake: Love letters from Perry. We would write each other notes, and sometimes he even insisted that we mail them to each other. He was a very thoughtful person. Childhood dream job: Detective Favorite pastime: Cooking for loved ones and gardening Words to live by: Integrity is about doing the right thing, even when it’s not convenient.
