Like peanut butter and jelly or milk and cookies, ballet and classical music are a match made in heaven. This Sunday, February 28, you can enjoy both in a free performance at the Meyer Amphitheatre in downtown West Palm Beach.
Ballet Palm Beach and Palm Beach Symphony are joining forces to present “Harmony: An Exhibition of the Arts.” This two-hour presentation speaks to West Palm Beach’s growing arts scene and the need to introduce the community to the area’s amazing artistic organizations.
“Harmony will give our community the opportunity to experience a world-class concert in their backyard, introducing classical music to many in a fun, relaxing setting,” Palm Beach Symphony Executive Director David McClymont says in a statement.
“Our arts and cultural community grows larger and stronger every day,” adds Raphael Clemente, executive director of the West Palm Beach Downtown Development Authority, which is presenting “Harmony” in partnership with the West Palm Beach Arts & Entertainment District and Peter and Julie Cummings. “Its impact upon all of us and the local economy is also growing fast, positioning downtown West Palm Beach as a destination with powerful appeal.”
This production is a family-friendly event, and guests are encouraged to bring chairs, blankets, and picnics. And the entertainment will be just as lovely as the setting. Ballet Palm Beach will present the world premiere of the new ballet Gatsby, based on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel The Great Gatsby. Guest conductor Nir Kabaretti will lead Palm Beach Symphony in a performance of Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet Overture: Fantasy, Bizet’s Carmen Suite No. 1, and excerpts from Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade. The two organizations will together perform Peter and the Wolf with a score by Serge Prokofiev.
“Harmony: An Exhibition of the Arts” will begin at 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 28, at the Meyer Amphitheatre. For more information, visit downtownwpbarts.com
