Beginning with Picasso’s first sculpture of a clay figure, “Seated Woman”, the exhibition then moves on to his wooden sculptures that were influenced by primitive art. The exhibition also has a room dedicated to the “Glass of Absinthe” that examines the contradicting elements and sculptural incarnation of cubism that forms the piece. Designed in 1914, this marks the first time that the series is visible in its entirety in Europe.

In another area of the exhibition is a room that focuses on the “Monument of Apollonaire”. It focuses on the proposals by Picasso for a monument that pays homage to the poet. Must-see pieces in the exhibition include the “Head of a Woman” that was designed for the Spanish pavilion at the International Exposition of Art and Technology in Modern Life. Held back in 1937, it was also the location where Picasso’s famous “Guernica” painting was exhibited.
