Pide Oven – Oven fresh Turkish Pizzas

Pide Oven

When I think of Turkish food the first thing that comes to mind is kebabs, not donor ones but meat on metal sticks grilled on charcoal flames. There’s also another particular item on the menu I usually order, especially for lunch are Lahmacun a Turkish flat bread pizza, topped with minced meat, herbs and usually loaded up with a salad. Pide in Fitzrovia Charlotte Street is named after the most popular item off the menu Pide. Thin crust bread shaped into a boat shape, and filled with fresh ingredient than baked in the ovens on site.

Freshly baked

Pide is a little place, with a few tables to eat in, most people take out their orders. You stand by the counter and can oversee the chef in his corner with his shelf of fresh ingredients and tools. I went for the classic lamb lahmacun £3.50. The dough is shaped by hand by the chef, then the ingredients go on top before being baked in the oven. It does take a while to wait for the food to cook, but you are awarded freshly baked pizza. It has a nice thin crust, warm spices of paprika, tomato based sauce, peppers, red onions.

The toppings on the lahmacun were on the stingy side, and veg and herbs are cut up to micro size but it was tasty, crusty edges but not filling enough for lunch. This would make a great appetizer if you need something more filling look into the pide section.
