Pilau – Indian Street style

Pilau

Pilau started off as a pop back in Soho, and since 2015 they made two permanent homes in London. Pilau non-fussy Indian street style food is a crowd pleaser. It became on my radar when I started working in the Fitzrovia area, signing up to Mealpal. I saw Pilau on the list and decided to give it a go one lunchtime. With Mealpal it is a set lunch with no customisation and I got to skip the queue. I have visited Pilau queuing up in the one-way system like those burrito shops. Located in Goodge Street, Pilau quickly fills up with people once it hit lunchtime. There’s limited seating area to sit in.

build your own

You start off with a choice of base, of a wrap, rice bowl or salad. Then you decide on what size portion you like, then the next step is to pick the eat. Lastly you pick the toppings and sauce. The finished combination is a colourful affair, shredded up red cabbage, freshly chopped lettuce, rice, and crispy onions, smothered in a sweet curry sauce. Imagine all the different layers of flavours and textures going on. The lamb is tender and fatty, and has a wee kick. A medium portion is generous in size. Although I doubt the food was traditional Indian, I like Pilau modern take of the flavours and ingredients.
