There’s been a recent development of musicians revealing their new projects piecemeal, slowly trickling out info via social media seemingly so their fans can obsess over every new detail that slowly emerges. Following the lead of his peers, Playboi Carti has now “revealed” a new album (or single? or something?) via Instagram.
Kanye‘s super-delayed DONDA debut has set the standard for this kind of tease, but there have been more than a few like-minded rollouts in the past month or so.
On August 20, Kendrick Lamar tossed his hat into the ring with Oklama, announced via a strange, low-key website of the same name. This came mere days after the debut of Frank Ocean‘s still-semi-vague Homer brand.
Drake’s Certified Lover Boy, which was initially slated to drop in January, set the tone here. It missed its rumored early August drop date and remains up in the air, even spurring its own strange and sad Kanye beef.

Now, Narcissist, Carti’s new thing, is apparently dropping September 13.
The Instagram post announcing Narcissist is the only one on Carti’s Instagram, which even lacks an avatar. Still, the post is rich with intrigue, showcasing someone (it isn’t clear if it’s Carti) layered up in Balenciaga’s seven+ piece “Oversized Layered Parka” and biker pants, plus some furry boots from Rick Owens’ Moncler collaboration.
Definitely a bit of Kanye influence with the Balenciaga — besides creative director Demna Gvasalia’s DONDA merch, the luxury house is only one of two entities Kanye follows on Instagram (Kim Kardashian being the other).
As for what Narcissist actually is, let’s wait and see — mid-September is only a few weeks away, if that actually is a supposed release date.
