Porsche’s all-new Cayenne to debut on August 29

If the above teaser video doesn’t make you anticipate Porsche’s latest offering, perhaps you should read on. As revealed by the German sports car maker last Friday, the all-new, third-generation Cayenne is set to launch on Tuesday, August 29. Judging from the rendering below, the 2018 Cayenne may not differ much from its predecessor in terms of exterior design, but there’s definitely more than meets the eye. After all, this is Porsche we’re talking about.

The 2018 Cayenne SUV promises a revolutionary leap in performance, if what CarScoops has reported is anything to go by. On Tuesday, you can expect a 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 with 330 horsepower, as well as a twin-turbo 2.9-litre V6 with 440 horsepower. A plug-in hybrid unit will also be an additional option.

For those who can afford to wait, the SUV will also be on display at the upcoming Frankfurt Motorshow, which opens to the public from September 14 to 24.

First unveiled in 2002, the release of the Cayenne was a huge gamble for Porsche, which for 70 years prior had been defined by its range of track-bred, lightweight sports cars. Regardless, the company pushed through with its decision — and it paid off.

Not only did the Cayenne set the standards of SUVs for other luxury car brands, it went on to replace Porsche’s 911 as the driving force behind year upon year of record sales at the company. In 2016, Porsche sold a staggering 237,778 cars, 70,000 of which were Cayennes. The car has even gone on to break world records. The Cayenne is unfaltering proof that when Porsche sets out to do something, it sets out to do it best.
