#PrestigeItBags with Rachel Allison
Rachel Allison, the delightful daughter of fashion designer Sally Koeswanto, models the fall/winter it bags for Prestige.
Rachel Allison arrives at Alila SCBD with her glamorous fashion designer mom Sally Koeswanto. They’re both wearing denim shorts with sneakers, looking more like sisters than mother and daughter.
Sally is proud that Prestige has invited her little girl, who is about to turn 18, to model the fall/winter it bags from some of our favourite brands: Coach, Dior, Fendi, Hermès, Lanvin, Louis Vuitton, Michael Kors, Off White, Prada, Simon Miller and Valentino.
Rachel seems shy at first under the lights. But with mom on hand to give her confidence she become more relaxed as the shoot goes on, dealing assuredly with everything from the classy Louis Vuitton Mini Dauphine to the eye-catching Off White Jitney 2.8 Cash Inside. Shoot done, Rachel sits down for a chat. Excerpts:
How do you feel about bags?
I love them. I’m more of a bag person than a shoe person. I love to mix and match my outfits according to my bags. It’s a really fun way to spice up the way you dress and look on a daily basis.
I like bags that are small and practical. Currently, I’m in love with the Dior Saddle because of its unique and fun shape. In spite of its uncommon shape, I find it quite practical because the bag is big enough to take a lot of stuff.
There’s also the classic Chanel bag, because it’s really timeless and beautiful. You can wear it to every occasion and it looks perfect on everyone.
Do you remember your first designer bag?
I do! It was a Burberry, from the Kids collection. I’m not really sure what the occasion was, but as far as I can remember I got it when I was in second grade. It’s a cute little handbag. I still have it. It’s my precious Holy Grail bag.
What are your favorite labels?
It has to be Dior to start with. I love the variety, from classic and feminine to playful. Especially since Maria Grazia Chiuri took over as Creative Director, there’s a touch of femininity on every design.
Who taught you about style?
Definitely my mother! Ever since I was a kid I looked at how she dressed and styled herself. Until now, she’s my biggest inspiration. Now I’m finding my own style. Both of us may look alike, but we have different tastes. My mother’s style is daring and edgy, while I’m more casual and feminine. We complement each other’s styles and that makes us look cool together.
You just graduated from high school. What’s next?
I’m going to study for a degree in International Political Economy at City, University of London. There’s no such thing as a perfect world while a lot of issues, such as poverty, racial discrimination and religious tolerance, remain unresolved. But we all know that there’s a lot of potential to move forward and solve social problems. I enjoy watching documentaries on social issues on Netflix and YouTube, and I look forward to learning more about them at university.
You just appeared in Jaz’s “Katakan” music video. Tell us about it.
I got a message through Instagram from a music producer asking me if I would like to be a model in the Jaz’s next video. I thought, why not? I’d never been in a music video or done any acting before. The experience was total fun. I learned a lot and I’m really grateful to have been part of it.
What do you do in your free time?
Nothing much at the moment. As the time to go to England to study approaches, I like spending time at home with my family and our dogs. This quality time with the people I care about the most is important to me. It’s vital to treasure these moments.
On the other hand, when I get the chance I love to travel and immerse myself in the culture and history of the countries I visit. It’s all about widening your perspectives on life.
