Radio Theatre at the Arts Garage | Strangers on a Train

If there were one piece of advice one could take from Strangers on a Train, it’s this: Be careful whom you vent your frustrations to. Alfred Hitchcock’s psychological crime thriller, adapted from the Patricia Highsmith novel of the same name, explores what happens when a case of missed signals can have deadly consequences.

Radio Theatre - Strangers on a Train - Delray Beach - Alfred Hitchcock adapted script

A chance meeting on a train pairs Bruno Anthony (played by Robert Walker), a charming psychopath who despises his father, and Guy Haines (played by Farley Granger), an amateur tennis player desperate to divorce his wife Miriam in order to marry Anne (played by Ruth Roman), the daughter of a senator. After an airing of grievances, Bruno presents a plan to rid the two of their overbearing loved-ones. Guy, taken aback, leaves abruptly, giving Bruno the impression that the deal is on. After Bruno kills Guy’s wife, his attempts for Guy’s reciprocation fall short, putting in action a plot to frame Guy for his wife’s murder.

Will Bruno get away with his devious plan? Will Guy win his tennis match in time? The Arts Garage’s Radio Theatre will bring this thrilling crime drama to the stage in true Guy Noir fashion on November 18-19.  Staged as if for old-time radio, Radio Theatre has adapted classic movie scripts for actors to perform, while technicians add sound effects using rather interesting devices—think clopping coconut shells from Monty Python and the Holy Grail. It all adds up to a rather unique and interesting form of live performance that is not only entertaining, but a little nostalgic too.

  • Showtimes: November 18 and 19 at 7:30 p.m. Admission costs $20 for general seating, $30 for premium. For more information, visit artsgarage.org.

Each Radio Theatre play is recorded for audiences to enjoy long after the curtain has fallen. Visit artsradionetwork.com for more information.
