From your blog Miss Style Fiesta to your Instagram page, how has been the journey as a content creator, and what is the biggest takeaway till date?
My biggest takeaway in the journey of 11 years of being a content creator is, I’ve realized that to really be an authentic content creator, there are 2 things that have to be there- Consistency and Passion. One has to be consistent because you give your community the time and once you’ve achieved their trust, they keep coming back to you and you have to make sure to keep delivering with that consistency. Secondly, if you’re not passionate about the subject that you’re creating content around, it will be very visible to your audience. Being incisively passionate about what I do has helped me adapt and grow with the changing dynamics of the internet, be up to date with the new trends and continue to create content that will help my community.
Fashion as a subject is very close to you. How do you see the evolving face of fashion in the Indian market?
I think the most impactful change that the Indian fashion industry has seen is how open it is to change, how accepting it is to new ideas and concepts, and to new thought processes. Even as being a content creator, it’s a very new profession to be in. I think that the Indian fashion industry embraced this whole profession so beautifully and so well. It really let us in which shows how accepting and cautious it has become. It’s very aware of what the world needs, what the environment needs and what the people need. My favourite part of the Indian fashion industry will always be the amalgamation of the two worlds that in every piece of Indian fashion we never let that Indian touch go away.
Recently, you started a new venture Empowerher. What’s the motive of this venture?
With EmpowerHer, it’s a separate set of content channel that I’m building about a topic that I’m very passionate about which is women empowerment. Women often face struggles at work and outside the comfort of the house. I started working really young and put up the business at the age of 19. Hence, I know of all the obstacles and hurdles that I have faced, which was due to the discrimination of my sex and now I want to be able to share my experience- wins, and failures with the community hoping that through my content I can help make someone’s professional journey easier.
How far #SupportIndianDesigners has been a success and what all benefits have been derived out of the conversations?
#SupportIndianDesigners is basically a pro-bono initiative that I feature and support local Indian brands and designers. It has been getting a very overwhelming response and the hashtag have over 300,000 posts. More than that, I think the kind of sales and conversions people see through this initiative is amazing.
You have been a recipient of many awards. How do you define success in the digital world?
I wake up every day with consistent passion and dedication, that’s what success is to me. All the awards and accolades are definitely confirmation of the hard work. But at the core of it, success is to be able to find happiness in your work and I don’t think this just applies to the digital world but also everywhere.
During the second wave of COVID, content creators and influencers have been questioned a lot. What do you have to say about it?
Yes, creators and influencers have been questioned a lot but I’ll be honest that having the kind of platform brings possibilities and opportunities along with a certain responsibility as well. There have been numerous times in my career where I have been called out on the internet and for the right reasons too. I know I have made mistakes and it’s natural to do so, we’re human after all. There have been times where I’ve not been responsible and I feel that’s alright because it’s all part of the journey. But if you are a creator or influencer, you have to be aware and acceptable from day one that having access to so many people, they will have their demands and a certain level of responsibility from you where you need to be answerable.
