Recognizing Talents: Sanjay Nigam

Meet Sanjay Nigam, founder, India Fashion Awards, a platform that recognizes and celebrates talents of the fashion world. Sanjay feels that appreciation and acknowledgment can together help the world grow to another level and that is what he is trying to do with his brainchild. In a quick chat with TMM, he talks about lessons of life and his definition of success.

You are a successful businessman. What is your biggest learning as an entrepreneur?
Every day is a new canvas to paint a new piece of art.  I read this somewhere and since then, I take every day as a new lesson and make sure to learn something new. This ongoing process of learning and unlearning has helped me grow as a professional and the biggest learning for me is- ‘Nothing is Permanent’. So, I try to make the most of it and live life to the fullest.

What is the motive of the Indian Fashion Awards?
We all love appreciation for the hard work we put in our work. It gives us the boost to perform better in the future. India Fashion Awards is that ‘boost’ that empowers the talents of this industry to perform better. From backstage manager to cameraman, this industry is the junction point of many other professions and they all work like unsung heroes of the glamour world. IFA provides a platform to all such talents that acknowledge their work and also felicitates them.

Do you feel that the goal of the India Fashion Awards is achieved?
Yes, I certainly feel that we achieved what we aimed, and the proof is all these fashion stars of the industry standing under one roof to attend the second season of IFA. Moreover, I am elated to know that the industry is happy to have a platform that recognizes the efforts of every entity in the fashion world.

Do you think social media has changed the game of the fashion world?
It has certainly changed the dynamics of the game and I feel it has changed things for a better tomorrow. I feel so happy to see models getting recognition via social media. There are many who often get work on a regular basis via this medium. Also, it is giving a lot of visibility to the brands that can’t afford an elaborate marketing plan.

How do you define success?
For me, success is when you feel satisfied with what you are doing. The logic is, when you do your work with full dedication, you feel satisfied and that hard work gets its due credit at the right time and slowly people start recognizing you and your work. It’s an ongoing process that calls for patience and dedication.

Any tips for aspiring models who wish to make it big in the fashion industry?
It is important to be consistent in what you do in life. I have various businesses across countries in Asia, from real estate to trade and I have always been consistent with my passion and that’s the reason today I feel content. My message to my followers is to develop a strong base so that it becomes your identity and then develop other skills to polish your personality and success will be yours.
