STYLING BY ASHLEY MEYER AND AIRIELLE FARLEY

With their deep red hue, ivory frosting, and burnished golden pearls, these elegant red velvet cookies are perfect for any Christmas fête, and their chocolate-y taste is sure to please. A tip? Try using cake flour instead of all-purpose flour for a lighter, airier consistency.

day-7-swans

Ingredients: Makes 3 dozen

  • ½ cup butter, softened
  • 2/3 cup light brown sugar
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp. red food coloring
  • 3 tbsp. chocolate syrup
  • ¾ cup plain yogurt
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 2 tbsp. unsweetened baking cocoa

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Line cookie sheets with parchment paper and set aside. In a mixing bowl, add butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar and beat on low speed until light and fluffy. Add egg and beat well. Add food coloring, chocolate syrup, and yogurt, and beat until blended. Stir in flour, baking powder, and cocoa until just combined. Drop cookie dough onto prepared sheets, about 2 inches apart. Bake for 8-9 minutes. Let cool completely before frosting, and decorate with colored sugar, sprinkles, or decorative pearls.

Cream Cheese Frosting

  • 4 oz. cream cheese, softened
  • ¼ cup butter, softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract

Cream together cream cheese and butter until smooth. Gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla extract.
