Ye’s, DONDA (arguably the most talked-about project of the decade so far), already has a sequel in the works. Its title? Why, DONDA 2, of course.
If there’s one thing that we’ve come to expect from the artist formally known as Kanye West, it’s promised albums that never see the light of day.
While he’s delivered some of the most highly regarded bodies of music of the past two decades with The College Dropout, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, and Watch the Throne, to name a few, there have been plenty of projects seemingly lost to the aether.
Before jumping into speculation surrounding DONDA 2, let’s have a quick refresher course on the albums that never came to fruition.
There at ten in total, including; the Drake collaboration Wolves, Yeezus 2, Cruel Winter, Turbo Grafx 16, Love Everyone, So Help Me God, Yandhi, Good Ass Job, and Watch the Throne 2.
Unlike some of these previously announced projects, word of DONDA 2 being in development hasn’t come from Ye himself; instead shared by the chief operating officer of G.O.O.D. Music, Steven Victor to Complex.
A good rule of thumb where West’s albums are concerned is not to get your hopes up, even if we hear music.
Several projects have felt imminent in the past – take Yandhi, for example; which had official artwork, as well as several songs which appeared on Itunes, while the entirety of the tracklist went on to leak via YouTube.
Although DONDA did eventually release at the end of August, the album was originally due to come out in July 2020. I say this to say – expect the unexpected, or nothing at all.
