Review: Davosa Ternos Rio Olympics Dive Watch

To mark the 2016 Olympic Games that will be held in Rio de Janeiro later this year, Davosa has released a special edition of its popular Ternos dive watch. The new Ternos Rio’s bezel has highlights in yellow, green, and blue as a nod to host country Brazil’s national colors, and sports a yellow sweep seconds hand that complements these accents. The rest of the watch remains unchanged through, which preserves its overall design language and resultant versatility.

Like the regular models, the Ternos Rio comes in a steel case measuring 40mm across, with a matching steel bracelet. Its dial and ceramic bezel have both been rendered in black, and are free of superfluous markings to maintain the level of legibility expected of a dive watch. Naturally, Super-LumiNova has been applied to the usual spots as well. On the ergonomics front, the knurled rotating bezel and large crown makes for easy manipulation, while the bracelet’s clasp has an integrated diver’s extension to guarantee a close fit whether the watch is worn under a French cuff or over a wetsuit.

Under the Ternos Rio’s hood is a DAV 2824 calibre based on an ETA 2824-2. This workhorse movement has a going time of 38 hours and comes with a simple date indicator. Davosa has positioned the date aperture at three o’clock, underneath a magnifying “Cyclops” lens that’s integrated with the sapphire crystal, to allow it to be read at a glance.

The Ternos Rio will have a limited run of 100 pieces.
