Located at 46 East 57th Street, Richard Mille’s largest boutique Launches in the heart of Manhattan, New York City. The latest temple to Richard Mille watches measures 4,200-square-feet over two floors and it is every inch as high tech as its high horology timepieces. Featuring 24 massive panels of glass–totaling 37,000 pounds– each individually engraved and arranged three-deep to form a sculpture, the facade of Richard Mille’s latest New York City boutique is an impressive architectural and engineering feat.
Richard Mille’s largest boutique Launches in New York City
“From the company’s earliest days, a standalone boutique in New York City has been a top objective for me. But I am never one to rush a project if it isn’t perfect. For New York, where the boutique is an important showcase with global visibility, it was well worth waiting for just the right location, and the right space.” – Richard Mille, founder and CEO
The façade of Richard Mille’s largest boutique required the development of metal cladding that could hold the panels in place, including 13 tons of glass suspended from the ceiling. This work is reminiscent of the US$2 million RM 56-02 Tourbillon Sapphire. Instead of suspending 13 tons of glass, the tourbillon sapphire dramatically suspended its complex tourbillon calibre via suspension cable braided to .35mm (fishing line) thickness and then controlled the suspension system through a series of pulleys at four foundational points along the movement as well as additional posts along the side of the case. A ratchet at 9 o’clock allows the owner to adjust the tension on the cables, while an arrow at 12 o’clock registers how tight the cords are.
The latest Richard Mille New York Boutique exemplifies the bold, innovative watchmaking prowess which is signature of the maison. The extreme technicity and artistry that defines Richard Mille timepieces is also evident in every element of the boutique.
The new two-story oasis demonstrates brand traits like sleek contemporary design, bathed in abundant natural light, representing a new architectural standard for the watchmaker. The New York flagship resides on a stretch of 57th Street that enjoys the nickname “Billionaire’s Row” thanks to luxury condos in the area.
