When it comes to Rick Owens, we never know what to expect.
Over the past decade, Owens has created a loyal following of both fashion enthusiasts as well as kids on the internet with his unique and futuristic designs, as well as his constant push to create something out of the ordinary. This season, it was combining headwear with lightbulbs.
Models paraded down the dark dungeon-inspired runway with headwear inspired by ancient Egypt, accented by bright shining lights powered by a small power bank that the models carried with them. The hats aren’t just hats, though, they also double as lamps. “They’re all free-standing,” Owens told Vogue.
As with any Rick Owens show, there were almost too many outstanding moments to just pick one. But Instagram chose its favorite quicky: the “Urinal” top. When I woke up this morning, it had made pretty much every Instagram story. Its deeper meaning? I have no idea.
The collection also saw signature Rick elements, such as padded bomber jackets, cropped puffers, layered knits, and of course, exaggerated shoulders. Although the collection mainly followed a muted color palette of black, grey, and whites, pops of pink and orange was seamlessly woven through the range.
Pink cowhide vests that zip all the way up (I’m still unsure how models were able to see anything in these?), floor-lenght chain. harnesses, 3M coats, and plenty of bare chests made Rick Owens’ Fall/Winter 2022 one to remember.
On-feet were new iterations of Owens’ popular Kiss boots, as well as a new collaboration with Converse. Described as “blown-up Converse TURBOWPN and Converse DRKSTAR” in the show notes, the sneakers are similar to his previous partnership with the label.
To summarize it all, Rick Owens’ Fall/Winter 2022 collection was proof that despite navigating a pandemic, the designer hasn’t lost an ounce of creativity through it.
