Food brings people together, and there is no greater pleasure than gathering with friends at home. This was the atmosphere Roland Adam, interior designer of Goodlife, created with his table setting at Minotti in Kemang, writes Liviani Putri.
“Nowadays, people love to entertain guests at home,” says Roland Adam at the beginning of his interview with Prestige. “The reason is simple. Most of us do not have the time or energy to go out and confront the traffic jams everywhere. So what’s the solution for entertaining? Let’s do it at home.
“The concept is to have dinner with close friends, say around three to four people, or as many six to eight. That’s why I chose a setting suitable for comfort food, like home-cooked soup, garden salad and a main course. The best pairings are with champagne then red or white wine, but it all depends the guests’ tastes.”
Warm vibes are reflected through the centrepieces on the dining table. The Wonder chandelier from Penta, candles from his personal collection to make the dining table more intimate, moss and succulent plant arranged by Amalya Hasibuan from Eschol. “I chose plants over flowers because I wanted to give a different perspective.”
Using a masculine and informal approach, black and white were chosen as the main color of the table setting. The color coordinates through the tableware: the underplate from Promemoria, dining plates from Giorgio Armani along with the hand stitched black napkin made from real linen attached with napkin ring by Country Road and Ruscus leaf. For the drinkware, the champagne flute from Christofle, the wine glass from Rosenthal and water glass from Jullien Macdonald. Driade Sterling Silver designed by Borek Sipek were chosen as the cutlery. “Even though the arrangement is a little bit casual, it’s important to put extra effort into every single detail.”
Talking about arranging the tableware, drinkware, and silverware, Roland shares his tips “I think people don’t have to be afraid in using their best collection to the dining table. Why you spend so much money for the tableware and silverwares but don’t enjoy it? If they still think that it will be broken, that’s a wrong mindset. Use your best tableware, crystal, silverware, anything. It will bring you happiness when you see it on the table.”
Then dessert time comes, and where is the best place to enjoy it? Roland set up a special corner. The tableware for the fruit and cakes is by Fornasetti, joined by Lotus plates by Alessi. “Having dessert at the dining table can be boring sometimes,” Roland declares. “So, I prepared a place to enjoy dessert and champagne in relaxing way by sitting on the sofa, continuing the conversation with friends. The best way to close a dinner is by drinking a champagne. I like to drink Veuve Clicquot Champagne, complemented with fresh grapes, plums and cherries and some cakes.”
