At the most recent Galaxy Unpacked launch event, Samsung unveiled a handful of new cell phones including Galaxy S20, S20, S20 Ultra, and of course the highly anticipated Galaxy Z Flip phone which even had apple devotees a little curious. But what’s more exciting than the Galaxy Z Flip phone is one designed by eponymous American fashion designer Thom Browne — making it the style and tech collaboration that gets fashion geeks aroused.
The Galaxy Z Flip sees a foldable screen tech similar to the Samsung Galaxy Fold, however, the Z Flip folds the same direction as many nostalgic flip phones and is both smaller and more compact. In a statement by Browne, “partnering with Samsung to create Galaxy Z Flip Thom Browne Edition was an incredible opportunity to reimagine how consumers express themselves through their smartphone… We designed Galaxy Z Flip Thom Browne Edition just like I do my collections – with proportion, individuality and aesthetic in mind – to create the perfect blend of art and technology.”
Getting into more technical details, the Galaxy Z Flip boasts a 7nm, 64-bit octa-core processor, 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. It’s also powered with a 3,300mAh battery that could last all day. Equipped with three cameras; the front-facing camera has a 10MP with an f/2.4 aperture, while the other two cameras are located on the back of the phone. The main wide-angle camera has a 12MP sensor with an f/1.8 aperture, optical image stabilisation, and up to 8X digital zoom. The second ultra-wide-angle camera has another 12MP sensor with an f/2.2 aperture.
The limited-edition phone comes with a pair of Thom Browne Galaxy Buds+ and a Galaxy Watch Active2, which sit alongside the phone in a sleek box adorned with Thom Browne’s signature Americana striping. All three gadgets also feature Thom Browne’s signature colours of red, white and navy.
The regular edition of the Galaxy Z Flip will be made available in the U.S. starting 14 February and will retail for approximately HK$10,716 (US$1,380). The price for the Thom Browne Edition hasn’t been announced yet but preorders will start on 14 February on Samsung and Thom Browne‘s websites, along with Net-a-Porter and MR PORTER.
