Too cute! Sarah Hyland reflected on her and fiancé Wells Adams‘ journey from their first date to now planning their wedding. The Modern Family actress and Bachelor in Paradise bartender seem to be head-over-heels in love with each other and are fully enjoying their engagement. The Emmy Awards — which happened this year on September 22 — made the couple feel extra nostalgic and the starlet even confessed that it was a life-changing event.
“A little over two years ago we had our first date at this #emmys party,” the 28-year-old actress began an Instagram post on September 25. “Now at our third time attending, we’re engaged. It’s amazing how fast time flies when you meet your forever person. My only regret is that we have ZERO pictures from the night that changed my life. I love you to Pluto and back.”
Wells, 35, previously opened up about their unconventional first date during an episode of “Your Favorite Things” podcast with Brandi Cyrus. “I’ve never told this story! It is one of my favorite stories,” he recalled back in October 2018. After the former Bachelorette contestant slid into her Twitter DMs, they began talking and Facetiming. When he received the opportunity to host the Hero Dogs Awards in Los Angeles, he thought it would be a great chance to meet his long-distance love interest IRL.
Dating an A-lister can get you into some unexpected circumstances, according to the radio DJ. “She didn’t tell me what it was, she was just like, ‘Hey I’ve got an industry party I’ve got to go to,’ so I was like, ‘That’s cool, I’m going to this hero dog awards, but when I’m done lets go get a drink.’ That was the thought,” Wells continued and noted that by the time he finished his hosting gig, there wasn’t anywhere to meet up. “She was like, ‘I’m looking on my phone right now, there’s nothing really open in Beverly Hills, just come to this party I’m at, I’ve got a plus one.’ So I was like, ‘OK, whatever.’ So yeah, our first date was at the night before the Emmys party and that party … 99.9 percent of the population doesn’t know that this party exists because there’s no press allowed, there’s no cameras allowed, it’s the night before and it’s everybody. It’s everyone that’s on a TV show right now … except for reality TV shows.”
He confirmed that their date was “trial by fire” but he passed the test. The reality bartended added, “You have to remember, this is the first time I ever met Sarah. So then we walk in and we run into Johnny Galecki from Big Bang Theory, she’s like ‘Oh my God, love, how are you doing?’ He was like, ‘My house just burned down’ and I started laughing. He was like, ‘Why are you laughing?’ And I was like, ‘Oh you’re being serious.'”
While they may have had a bumpy first encounter, we’re glad these lovebirds are in it for the long haul!
