Sarah Hyland Shares Body-Positive Message to ‘Invisible Illness Warriors’: ‘It’s OK to Be Insecure’

She’s got good advice. Sarah Hyland took to her Instagram feed to share a few vulnerable thoughts with fans and followers regarding a paparazzi photo she initially didn’t like. The 28-year-old made the post in order to connect with other people struggling with “invisible” illnesses, as the actress suffers from both kidney dysplasia and endometriosis.

“To my fellow #invisibleillness warriors. It’s OK to be insecure about your body. Just remember to check in with yourself at least once a day and say thank you,” the brunette beauty captioned a photo of herself in workout gear, showing off her tummy. “Our bodies have endured unfathomable feats that our minds barely have time to comprehend what has actually happened.”

She also made a relatable comment about how she felt about the photo. “With inflammation, excess water gain, and medications, my skin has a hard time bouncing back. I saw this picture and HATED it but quickly readjusted my attitude and decided to celebrate it,” she concluded. “Love yourself and be patient. We are all stronger than we think we are.”

Sarah has been through a lot with her kidney illness, which has seen her take two donated kidneys in her life and put her through 16 operations since birth. Over the summer, she documented a trip to the hospital with her fiancé, Wells Adams — the visit came just two weeks after her two-year kidney transplant anniversary.

“Thank you guys who have been sending well wishes while I was in the hospital,” she said in an Instagram Story video on June 25. “Long story short, I went in because I was feeling like I was being choked from whatever’s in the house. And then I was like, ‘Maybe it’s just a coincidence, maybe there’s something actually medically wrong with me.’” She also explained that she “couldn’t breathe” and “had chest pains.”

Believe it or not, they discharged the starlet just three days later — with no explanation for her issue. “So, I go to the ER after a very long day of work, with lots of makeup on, and I just got home from Friday night,” she revealed. “They ran multiple tests, multiple times, and there’s nothing physically wrong with me. So, wonder why I was there.”

We’re glad to see her surviving and thriving!
