Wait a sec … Selling Sunset couple Mary Fitzgerald and Romain Bonnet got married almost two years before their TV wedding — and had already tied the knot when they were first introduced as a couple on season 1 of the Netflix reality series.
“Mary and Romain had a civil union a couple of months before the show began filming in June of 2018, but they chose not to tell any of their friends or family, as they were still trying to see if their relationship would work out in the long term,” the couple’s rep told Us Weekly. “In their minds, they weren’t properly married until the wedding that was filmed during the show.”
The real estate reality hit followed the couple’s engagement, wedding planning and subsequent nuptials over the course of two seasons. The show started filming in the summer of 2018 … but the twosome actually said “I do” on March 9, 2018, at the Ventura Courthouse, according to the certificate of marriage and license obtained by TMZ.
The pair were introduced as a couple who were just dating on the first season of the series and their 12-year age gap was a main focal point as they navigated the early stages of their relationship. Though they were unsure if they could go the distance, Romain, 27, ended up proposing to Mary, 39, at the end of the first season.
From there, fans watched Mary plan her wedding throughout season 2 — which included a few hiccups. The realtor grappled with the reality of her original venue falling through just one day before her nuptials. Before that drama, Romain was at odds with Mary’s Oppenheim Group coworker Davina Potratz and wouldn’t allow his wife-to-be to invite her to the ceremony.
Mary and Romain’s television wedding — a gorgeous French-themed affair — took place in October 2019 at a Los Angeles estate belonging to one of her clients.
Though the end of season 3 of Selling Sunset made it seem like Mary and Romain’s relationship may have been on the rocks, the pair revealed they’re still going strong and that married life is “so fun.”
“We are going on 10 months already,” Mary exclusively told Life & Style on August 14. “Seems like just yesterday I was walking down the aisle towards Romain on the Doheny property. Married life has been so busy! We are working non-stop. Even while the rest of the world is in quarantine, it seems like we can’t catch a break!”
