Shibuya Soho – All the bings

Shibuya Soho

Shibuya soho Japanese Restaurant

Shibuya Soho takes over Golden Gate Dessert house former home. The spot is along Shaftsbury Avenue, on a very busy street in Chinatown. It is a small space with two floors operating. Even since it has open, there are long queues at the door when I pass by and I never had a chance to try Shibuya Soho. Chinatown has many great spots for Asian Dessert houses, Tsujiri MatchaCandy CaféGaza cafeBubblewrap and more.

On the Menu

Décor is very simple, gracing white plain walls, and a splash of mellow yellow. At the entrance, you will see the ice shaving machine that chips away big piles of ice to create the bing/bingsu on the menu. Not only are there desserts, but there are also savoury dishes from bento boxes, curriesnoodlessushi and more.

Seated on the mezzanine level, we were given a clipboard with a flip board menu. The illustrations for Shibuya Soho is very tongue in cheek. Going straight to the Bing section it has 7 bings on offer. Bing/Bingsu is a Korean style shaved ice dessert.

The bing

One portion of Bing is huge, so it’s best shared with another person. We ordered two of the bing’s to share between four people. A huge dome of milky white snow arrived on a white porcelain plate, along with a shot glass of sweet condensed milk.

Momo bing

Momo is Japanese for peach, the momo bing came drizzled with a thick sauce with peach fruit pieces. Pour the shot of condensed milk to sweeten the rest of the shaved ice.

The mango bing is identical but with mango sauce and fruit cubes on top of the shaved ice. Scoop a mouthful of the bing with sauce and fruit, and you find the delicate ice instantaneously melt as soon as it hits your tongue. I love the refreshing taste of this dessert it’s not too heavy on flavours nor very sweet.
