If you have never heard of the Shoe Surgeon, it’s time you did. Dominic Chambrone aka the Shoe Surgeon founded Surgeon Studios to overturn the status quo in luxury bespoke crafts; and just 2 days ago, he once again exemplified his motto to “never stop creating” when he dropped his latest bespoke sneaker creation by adding vintage Brown Nile Crocodile leather to Nike Air Jordan 1s.
Introducing Dominic Chambrone, self-proclaimed “Shoe Surgeon”
He might be self proclaimed but it is plain to see from the amount of shoe swag on his instagram that Chambrone has quite the talent and skill with a scalpel. The Shoe Surgeon carefully dissects his commissioned sneakers and then in a bout of inspiration, embarks on some crazy luxury bespoke make-over, turning a regular pair of sneakers into some of the coolest bespoke sneakers you could ever own.
Though each bespoke sneaker commission is individually priced, the minimum order begins at US$1600 for each bespoke sneaker – obviously each pair is unique to client specifications and prices can vary according to size, detail, style and obviously, material. Here, Shoe Surgeon Chambrone definitely doesn’t compromise – each bespoke sneaker is made to wear and built to last.
He even worked with fashion filmmaker/photographer Elliot Evan on a bespoke sneaker commission using IKEA materials, perhaps snarky commentary on the recent trend direction which Balenciaga appears to be heading with their “classic blanket bag” and large tote.
The genesis of the Shoe Surgeon can be traced back to 1985 when he borrowed a cousin’s pair of Jordan 1s to wear. Though they were the coolest sneakers in the 80s, the ubiquity of Nike Jordan 1s meant that soon pretty much were wearing the same Jordans. Chambrone then picked up an airbrush and turn his own white Air Force mids into camo-treated bespoke sneakers. The rest, they say is history.
The Coolest Nike Jordan 1s You Can Own Are Bespoke with Vintage Brown Nile Crocodile leather
In addition to having an immediately distinctive hide, the nile crocodile is considered the second largest living crocodilian, reaching up to 20 feet (six meters) in length and having a voracious appetite for everything from hippos to humans. That they can be bred for their leather, takes nothing away from their reputation in its native Africa for being a man-eater (statistically proven).
Nile leather is not only recognisably luxurious but when distinctive material meets iconic sneaker like Nike Jordans, genius usually results. Effortless luxe appeal radiates from every ridge and texture of the vintage brown nile crocodile leather, right down to the black waxed canvas laces. High quality brown nile leather joins a crisp white midsole with versatile gum bottoms – you can expect this pair of bespoke basketball sneakers to patina like a fine pair of Berluti shoes over time.
