There’s not much going on in London for the hot pot scene. Whilst many hot pot steamboat places offer unlimited buffet style menus like Little Lamb nearby. The newly opened Shuang Shuang in Chinatown at Little Wu old spot brings a Conveyor belt Yo! Sushi style plate pricing system.
Hot pot is a common thing in China, my family tradition is to have hot pot on New Year’s day for a family gathering. The living steams up and the windows covers up with clouds of condensation. We usually go to See Woo and Loon Fung stocking up on fresh Asian vegetables, different assorted fish balls, thin slices of meat, and other things.
They have 3 easy steps to enjoy the informal meal, pick your broth, select your dipping sauce then grab your plates passing by the conveyor belt. Boil your ingredients in the broth, with the estimated time to cook on the plastic cover then enjoy scooping it out your food and dipping it in the sauces.
Shuang Shuang offers five different flavoured broths, rare black chicken makes a special appearance. Once it starts disappearing Shuang Shuang tops it up with vegetable stock free of charge.
Unlike traditional hot pot places you can have a pot of broth all to yourself or chose to share over a two flavour pot. What I love about eating hot pot is that everything goes well. The broth is subtly flavoured so you can enjoy the natural flavour of the meats and vegetables you put in the pot.
Shuang Shuang does this value set menu for £21, the broth and five green plates, with a plate of chosen noodles. If you do want more you just pay on top. At the end of my meal the total only came up to around £24-25.
