Elite travelers attending the Super Bowl in New Jersey this February will be happy to know that Signature Flight Support has opened a new state-of-the-art terminal at Newark Liberty International Airport.
Officials estimate some 1,200 private jets will be split between Teterboro, Morristown and Newark airports for the football championship with additional planes going to Westchester County Airport, La Guardia and even John F. Kennedy. The Signature facility will have parking for up to 100 private jets and more will do “drop and goes” letting their passengers off and then flying to other airports to wait, then coming back to pick them up.
The new Signature facility includes an 11,200 square foot terminal. Maria Sastre, President and Chief Operating Officer noted that private aviation makes a significant contribution to the Northern New Jersey economy and via predecessors has been on the field since 1962. Private jet travelers spend about $70,000 on non-aviation services when they visit, so with about 40 movements a day the terminal facilitates serious amounts of money for the region.
Sastre said the terminal in its first three weeks has already welcomed Heads of State and sports teams, including the Brooklyn Nets. The new facility she said provides a good first impression for opinion makers and global influencers.
Newark, according to General Manager Eric Richardson, is popular with larger private jets such as Boeing Business Jets and Airbus Corporate Jets that aren’t able to land at Teterboro. The Newark facility includes dedicated Customs and flights with 20 or less passengers can clear at the Signature facility instead of having to go into the main commercial terminal. There is also a Board Room that can be used for sports team screening and there are two lounges, one for general private jet passengers and a second VVIP lounge with separate ramp and parking lot access to accommodate larger groups, Heads of State and sports teams. Sleep rooms and shower facilities (intended for flight crews) can be used for passengers as well.
Elite travelers will be happy to know the Signature location is also home to HeliFlite’s fleet of seven Bell and Skikorsky helicopters. The choppers are popular for transfers into Manhattan (six minutes) as well as golf courses, corporate headquarters and private houses.
