Born in a middle-class family in Bamnauli village of western Uttar Pradesh, Shubham Tomar, also known as Kaka WRLD is the latest sensation in the music fraternity, who is trying to offer everything entertaining, with a hint of Indian roots and international feel together. This new-age singer, writer, composer, producer, and performer wishes to inspire others and make them live their dreams. In a conversation with TMM, he talks about his journey and music at large.
Tell us about your journey in the world of music and your songs.
While growing up, choosing music as a career was not a simple act of passion, as I faced a lot of struggles. To follow my passion, I started working as a music producer and produced around 50-55 songs which gave a boost to my career, and people started to know me as “Kaka On The Beat Bhai”. After scaling up in my music career, now I am a singer, writer, producer, and performer. With an inspiration to make people happy and visualize the world through my eyes, I am on the lookout to create music that can touch one’s soul.
One of my special ones is “Bholenath – A Love Story” is the divine love story of Lord Shiva and Mata Parvati and that song depicts the story of Lord Shiva’s life. Similarly, “SHE” is one such of my creations whereby I have created the story of a woman who is going through a tough time. And my latest song, “MADAM” is just about happy and groovy music that’s just meant for dancing. It has always been my passion to try different genres of music and I aim to create that always for my audience!
Why is your Instagram handle called Kaka WRLD?
As I said, it all started with “Kaka On The Beat Bhai”. So, Kaka is my stage name. I wanted to go with a catchy and easy name and Kaka is all about that. WRLD is just another word for ‘World’. So it’s all about my world “Kaka WRLD”.
When did you decide to take singing as a career and how has been the experience till date?
I have always been creatively inclined to music as I used to listen to music a lot as a child. When I was in high school, I thought of writing something out of interest and luckily, it turned out well that it gave me the confidence to choose music and since then there has been no looking back. Though I faced a lot of struggle while starting up, but it never shattered my spirit to create great music. Be it financial constraints or mental pressure from society, I have seen it all. People around me weren’t really receptive to my choice of music as a career but I never gave up and continued to work on my creations. Looking back, I can proudly say that I made it after all this. All these experiences have shaped my journey and have only made my passion for music stronger!
Tell us about your first music video and how was the experience?
During the beginning of my music career, I was featured in some music videos as a rapper like “Tere Chakkar Main” but my first commercial solo video is “Bholenath – A Love Story” directed By Arvindr Khaira. Produced & released by Pellet Drum Productions. As an independent artist, this music video gave me the big leap to create that mark with my composition and it’s been one of the turning points in my life! As far as experience is concerned, when you do a solo project, there is a lot of expectation from you. For me, it’s an exciting journey, as learned a lot in terms of nuances of shooting and acting in front of the camera.
Social media has given wider scope to young talents like you. How do you use social media as a tool?
Social media gives me the power to express myself to people and my followers. It’s like a bridge whereby I feel more connected to my audience and I learn about the preferences of my listeners. It’s a great medium for me to network with my fellow community of music enthusiasts. With social media, I can inspire and get inspired at the same time which is quite fulfilling for me!
Who is your inspiration in the world of music and why?
For me, all the music creators are my inspiration. I really appreciate the art of creating and producing music so whenever I get to experience the work of great music artists, I really get inspired. Be it tranquil music to groovy beats, different artists or performers help me understand the art better. I want to explore different genres of music so that all these varied artists give me that exposure of composing nicely!
The pandemic has affected the professional space badly. How are you keeping yourself busy?
Music creation is a creative process that requires ease and flow of thoughts. Personally, I have tried to keep stress at bay so that my music creations don’t get affected professionally. I make sure that I keep myself engaged by taking inspiration, listening to the music of other artists, watching movies, and talking to friends over the phone. Also, I am making sure that I keep my nutrition and physical health in check while staying indoors. I hope things will be better soon and we should utilize this time efficiently to round ourselves as better individuals and professionals.
What are your future plans in the world of music?
I’m visualizing taking up my music creations to a new level. The last year has been quite an awakening for me due to the pandemic and I’m working on my upcoming singles and albums so that I am all prepared to make the most of it when everything gets normal. Also, I’m experimenting and exploring different genres of music and working on a few great collaborations for my upcoming songs. I would want my audience to know that I’m all set to inspire them with my music.
