Robyn Brown was the last wife to join Kody Brown’s family and she came into the picture quite a bit later than his other spouses.
Robyn still is, in fact, the only legal wife in the Sister Wives patriarch following news of his shocking split from Christine Brown. The Utah native previously said that joining Kody and his three other wives, as well as their kids, felt “like destiny.” She added, “We should have all been together from day one.”
However, when they first met, Kody was weary about getting serious with his now-spouse. “She looked like a soccer mom,” Kody said about Robyn on the show. “She had a van, three kids and was divorced. I thought, ‘I didn’t need a van, a divorced woman, and three kids in my life — that’s just trouble.'”
For her part, Robyn was going through a tough time following her breakup. Her previous marriage to ex-husband David Jessop was not easy for either of them to get over.
“I was married before, and in that marriage, there was a lot of fighting and there was a lot of pain,” she said during an April 2021 episode of the TLC show. “I promised myself as I came out of my divorce, I was like, ‘If I ever marry again, I’m just going to be more cautious and more careful.'”
Although Kody had some reservations about Robyn, they ended up falling for each other. Their courtship was documented on Sister Wives season 1.
The duo saw each other for four months before Kody decided to ask her to join their family, SheKnows reported. “By polygamist standards, that’s actually a long time,” he explained on the reality show.
Kody’s first wife, Meri Brown, likely knew a romance was brewing. She was actually there when Kody and his then-future bride met. “So, Kody and I were out one night, and we went over to a friend’s house, and Robyn happens to be this friend’s cousin,” Meri said once on the show. “That’s where we first met Robyn.”
The father of 18 and Robyn now share two children together — Solomon and Ariella. Kody divorced his first legal wife, Meri, so he could legally marry Robyn in 2014. After making their relationship official, Kody adopted Robyn’s three children from her first marriage — son David Dayton and daughters Aurora Alice and Breanna Rose. Meri and Kody are still spiritually married, and he is also still going strong with second wife Janelle Brown, whom he spiritually married in January 1993.
During season 16 of Sister Wives, viewers watched the family prepare for their relocation from Flagstaff to Coyote Pass in Arizona, dealing with social distancing amid the coronavirus pandemic as well as what led to Christine’s decision to walk away from her marriage.
