The global pre-owned luxury site Vestiaire Collective has teamed up with the Toni Garrn Foundation (founded by the German-born model and philanthropist) to offer a selection of A-list wares for sale, with all proceeds going to charity.
We asked the fearless co-founder of Vestiaire Collective, Fanny Moizant, to tell us a bit more about why she got involved with Garrn’s initiative: “First we love Toni. She is a strong and leading character in our industry. She is fun but also very down to earth and most importantly she gives back. We really loved her approach, she is a “doer”, an entrepreneur for good. Being engaged in helping young girls to grow and develop themselves felt pretty close to our heart as we also try on Vestiaire Collective to empower our community, [which is] mainly composed of women. The alignment has always been genuine from day one and today more than ever we are fully convinced that initiatives like Toni’s foundation can help change the world.” Hear, hear.
Leafing through her little black book of big names, Garrn persuaded a roster of fashion heavyweights, including Caroline Issa, Gisele Bündchen and Joan Smalls, to rummage through their closets and donate a plethora of items – from bags to shoes and clothes – that are being offered for sale online from November 2. The money raised will go towards enabling access to education for girls in Zimbabwe, a cause close to Garrn’s heart (her foundation aims to help break the cycle of poverty by empowering young women around the world). Keep a look out for frocks from Naomi Campbell, ballet flats from Kate Upton and printed shirts from male mega-model Jon Kortajarena. When it comes to Moizant’s top pick from the sale, there’s not much hesitation: “I have to admit that I have a crush on the Kate Moss jacket. Being a big Moss fan I don’t see how I can resist!”
As well as the obvious charitable benefit of this particular sale, Vestiaire Collective helps reduce the overall impact of fashion on the environment, by encouraging a reduce and re-use approach to shopping. What’s not to love?
With plenty of one-of-a-kind styles from some of fashion’s biggest names, this is no ordinary Vestiaire Collective event. And, best of all, you’ll be helping to secure a brighter future for those less fortunate. Mark the date in your calendar and get set to shop!
