The gang’s all here! The much-anticipated sequel to Disney’s 2013 hit Frozen finally premieres in theaters on November 22, and the cast is full of celebrities.
Returning favorites like Idina Menzel and Kristen Bell — playing Elsa and Anna, respectively — are back. Josh Gad also returns as the lovable snowman Olaf and Jonathan Groff is back in his role of playing Kristoff Bjorgman, Anna’s love interest. But part two of the series also has some new faces that are sure to delight longtime fans and kids just starting to become interested in the Frozen franchise.
Santino Fontana, Ciarán Hinds, and Alan Tudyk all return as their previous characters — Hans, the leader of the Trolls and the Duke of Weselton in their respective roles — but they’re joined by a whole posse of newbies. Sterling K. Brown, Evan Rachel Wood, Alfred Molina, Martha Plimpton, Jason Ritter, Rachel Matthews and Jeremy Sisto all voice characters in the new movie, so we think it’s safe to say that Anna and Elsa’s world may be expanding a little bit.
For instance, Sterling, 43, — who is well-known for his run on NBC’s This Is Us — will apparently play Lieutenant Destin Mattias, who leads a group of soldiers trapped in an enchanted forest for years. Evan, 32, will play the mother of Elsa and Anna, Queen Iduna. This role was previously voiced by Jennifer Lee, who only had one line in the original film.
Similarly, Alfred, 66, plays King Agnarr, the father of Elsa and Anna who was previously voiced by Maurice LaMarche for the first movie. This suggests that the main characters’ parents may play a very important role in the plot of the sequel, even though they (spoiler alert?) died in Frozen long before most of the events of that film took place.
Rounding out the cast, Martha, 49, voices Yelana — the leader of the Northuldra tribe. Jason, 39, plays Ryder, a member of that tribe, and Rachel, 26, voices the part of as Honeymaren, another member of the Northuldra and Ryder’s sister. Jeremy, 45, voices the role of King Runeard. Plus, Hadley Gannaway plays Young Anna and Mattea Conforti is Young Elsa in the sequel. Multiple actresses played their parts in the first movie, but none of those voice actors seem to have returned for Frozen 2.
