Sonal Chouhan divulges her lockdown skin and hair care routineSonal Chouhan
Words:- Kartikya for TMM
Sonal Chouhan has been indulging in a simple skin and hair care routine during the lockdown. In a conversation with TMM online, she talks about her quarantine beauty regime and shares tips on how people can nurture their skin and hair during this time.
How have you been spending time during the lockdown?
I’m somebody who spent a lot of time at home even before the lockdown. So, in that sense, I’m not exactly struggling to kill time. Another thing that’s helped me is that because I don’t have any help at home, I’m doing everything on my own and that keeps me busy. I’m also catching up on reading and watching shows on Netflix.
It’s natural to feel anxious and stressed during these times. How are you staying positive and strong through it all?
I check the air quality index every day. It makes me so happy that it’s so clean for the first time after so many years. There is always a choice, we can look at the same thing positively or negatively. There will always be something to feel happy or sad about, but I choose to see the positives. I meditate. I speak to my family at least 12-13 times a day. Cooking is also a stress buster. I listen to music, I sing. These are things I didn’t have much time for before Sonal Chouhan added.
Visits to the salons have come to an end. What’s your skin and hair care regimen these days?
I’m looking at this lockdown in a very different way when it comes to a beauty regimen. It’s a break for my skin and I’m letting my skin breathe. I’m just pampering it and keeping it hydrated by moisturising it with a cream. I apply sunscreen even when I’m indoors. I take occasional afternoon naps. I’m also using a lot of natural face packs from leftovers from the kitchen. My skin is happy and I can feel it. Yes, visits to the salon have stopped, but maybe we should just let out skin be and not be bothered about that little hair showing on our upper lip (smiles).
Sonal Chouhan Are there any beauty hacks you follow?
There are two things I have been doing. I drink a lot of green tea, so when there is some of it left in the pan, I freeze it in an ice tray. At night, I rub it on my skin. Being rich in antioxidants, it’s a treat for the skin! Secondly, if you have an old mascara brush, wash and clean it well. Every night before sleeping, dip it in a bit of castor oil and apply it on your eyelashes without over-doing it. You will come out of the lockdown with long and thick lashes.
Any tips for TMM readers on what can they do to nurture their skin and hair during this time?
You can nurture anything if you give it time. And now, you have all the time in the world. Spend some time on your skin and hair. Use homemade face and hair packs and drink lots of water to flush out the toxins. If you have an aloe vera plant, rub it on your skin to nourish it. I don’t ever shampoo my hair without oiling it and earlier, I would only do it with olive oil. Now that I have time, I have been trying out different things to mix with it. Make a hair pack using curd, banana and egg. There are a lot of home skincare remedies on the internet, but nobody knows better than your mother! Keep it as natural as you can. And again, don’t ever forget to put on the sunscreen, even when you are indoors.
