Son’s and Daughter Coals Drop Yard
Sandwiches one of the greatest things ever invented. The portability of meal, with anything goes with the endless fillings you can cram between two slices of bread. Son’s and Daughter is James Ramsden and Sam Herlihy’s latest venture. Opening up in Coal Drops yard last year in September. Visting during the Eat Out Help out scheme meant I could enjoy the usual £8+ sandwiches for half price.
Best thing ever invented
You can eat inside the 28-seater sandwich shop or pop upstairs to their outdoor S+D GO van on the rooftop that sits above the restaurant. During these tough covid-19 times I feel safer eating outdoors in the fresh air with plenty of social distancing allowed. The S+D Go van also serve alcoholic and soft drinks for you to enjoy.
Ordering up at the van, you leave your name for the order and sit in the designated seats. Someone from the restaurant below will bring over your order to your table in a takeout bag for you to enjoy.
On the menu
There are 6 different sandwiches on the menu with the cheapest at £8.50 for an extra £2.50 you can make it a meal deal with extra fries and a soft drink or £5 for the beer. There’s chicken, spicy lamb, mortadella ham, broccoli, egg and prawn sandwiches on the menu. For drinks there’s plenty on offer, beer, wine, cocktails, milkshakes, soft drinks, juices, climpson + Sons coffee and Good proper tea. There’s also soft serve with a flavour of the week or vanilla for desserts.
What’s inside
My Prawn s+dwich sandwich came wrapped up securely in thick grease proof paper. I ordered up one of my all-time favourite sandwich combo’s prawns and mayo. You see the fillings overfilled to the edges of the bloomer. Prawns in mayo, nappa cabbage dressed in Asian vinaigrette, pickled ginger, prawn and Thai crackers for an extra dimension crunch.
This is no ordinary sandwich; a lot of thought is put into all the fillings combined together and the flavours pack a punch. It is a very hefty sandwich that won’t be easy to eat, savour the small bites. Original price for the sandwich is £9 but I paid 50% with Eat Out Help Out.
