The Miami-Palm Beach culinary connection stands to grow even stronger this season.
Following a splashy debut last year, the South Beach Wine & Food Festival will return to the Palm Beaches. This time, two of the area’s biggest culinary powerhouses will each mount a dinner to satisfy area foodies. On February 21, Mauro Colagreco, the chef at the helm of the three-Michelin-starred Mirazur, named the 2019 Best Restaurant in the World, will host a feast at Florie’s inside the Four Seasons. On February 20, chef Clay Conley, domestic queen Martha Stewart, and chef Katie Button of Cúrate in Asheville, North Carolina, will join forces for a gathering at Buccan in Palm Beach.
Stewart, who counts Buccan among her favorite restaurants in Palm Beach County, will soon have another South Florida Conley establishment to visit. The James Beard Award–nominated chef, who runs Buccan as well as neighboring Imoto and Grato in West Palm Beach, recently announced that he will open a new eatery, Chateau Miami, inside the historic, circa-1931 Château Petit Douy in Brickell.
“South Florida itself is getting smaller,” Conley says. “We have a lot of guests who come up from Miami to Buccan, and I’m looking forward to having our guests in Palm Beach try the restaurant in Miami. [The food scene] is merging together a bit.”
Set to open in early 2020, the restaurant will feature interiors by Ken Fulk and cocktails by Death & Co. The menu will resemble Buccan’s, with a focus on global new American, raw seafood, handmade pastas, and dishes cooked in a wood-burning grill. —L.P.
