STYLING BY ASHLEY MEYER AND AIRIELLE FARLEY
A staple of many households’ cookie jars around the holidays, these fragile, bite-sized cookies are sweet and buttery with crispy golden edges, and popular due to the variety of shapes and colors they can come in. This recipe, courtesy of our online editor’s Swedish grandmother, makes five dozen of these tasty little treats.
Ingredients: Makes 5 dozen
- 1 cup shortening
- ¾ cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 2¼ cups flour
- ½ tsp. baking powder
- Dash of salt
- 1 tsp. almond extract
Cream shortening, gradually adding sugar. Add egg and beat well. Add sifted dry ingredients and almond extract. Press onto ungreased cookie sheet (avoid using non-stick sheets, as the cookies need to stick to the surface for the dough to pull away from the cookie press). Bake for 10-12 minutes at 400 degrees F.
