Mastermind & CEO, Saahil Nandrajog has been a keen horse rider all his life, often competing nationally and internationally. During his years of show jumping, Saahil worked closely with different types of leather in creating the perfect reins and tack for his horse, Mistral. This gave rise to Saahil’s passion for leather and aesthetic attention. He developed a keen eye for detail and understood the importance of precision in tack in both riding and product development. “Even a difference of half an inch can translate into winning or losing at the highest level,” he exclaims. While exploring the world of leather and fabric, Saahil understood how much our homegrown fashion landscape missed a millennial tone and a brand that brought together an old-world charm with charismatic contemporary design. Tiger Marrón is a global brand that offers a mélange of products in top-quality leather and fabrics at attractive prices. Each piece has a story to tell and is designed keeping in mind every consumer’s individuality. In a detailed interview with TMM, SAAHIL NANDRAJOG talks about his goal to help you find expression in the collection and experience how the brand’s style brings out your awesome personality.

SAAHIL NANDRAJOG Leather BagsYou are not just a designer, but the one who knows the art of fashion and economics too. How do you create this balance with your brainchild Tiger Marrón?

(Smiles) A successful brand is a holistic entity. In the fashion world, people often focus just on the design and leave the other aspects out, as they are more art-oriented. Having a sound business and manufacturing background and honing my talents of art and design have been the building blocks of Tiger Marrón. At Tiger Marrón, we focus on all aspects. It’s about telling a story, a story one can relate to. May it be in the form of design, style, marketing, brand building or quality. The coalescing of all these factors is what gives rise to what we believe is a great brand.

When did your love for leather products begin?
SAAHIL NANDRAJOG have been a keen horse rider from an early age. I understood the nuances of leather while riding horses and competing as a show jumper. It’s important to know the tack you wear and put on a horse. Tack is made of leather, hence I started to get a preliminary and detailed understanding of leather and its ways while competing and I guess that’s when it became a part of my process.

Tiger Marrón has a background of 30 years of manufacturing through its parent company. We have designed and produced products for many big global brands over the last 3 decades. The major USP’s of the brand are unmatched quality, style and design, attractive price points in its segment, personalisation and bespoke services and storytelling. With time we have been recognized as a brand that doesn’t just sell products, rather creates a story and adds feelings to it, that later becomes a legacy to be cherished. These USP’s are at the forefront of the brand and are achieved by owning the supply and manufacturing chain. In addition to irradiating all middlemen. Both these aspects are key variables for Tiger Marrón. We are a 100% homegrown and self-made global brand.

Take us through the design procedure of the brand and how much time it takes to develop a product.
The design process usually starts with a simple conceptualisation in my head. I often take inspiration from non-attributable areas. Meaning, I am often inspired by everything around me, whether a physical object like a piece of clothing or nature or something as honest as a feeling or vibe. I then sit with my talented team of artisans, their machines and tools and start to manifest the product by creating a live mock. We have specialised machines, tools and artisans that perform specific tasks. Working at the ground level alongside my team at every step helps me keep an eye on every single detail, be it the leather, the stitch or the zip.

You recently collaborated with ace designer Manish Malhotra. Tell us about the association.
A dream came true, to say the least! It was an enthralling experience. Manish is such an inspiration and above all a great individual. So far, we have showcased products at his show and will hopefully soon move into a more robust deal.

Tiger Marrón products are well-nourished in every way. Each attribute is detailed and made with the utmost precision. Our thought process is simple, if we wouldn’t use it, we won’t sell it.
