A classic cookie perfect for our finale to our 12 Days of Christmas Cookies feature, this recipe for scrumptious sugar cookie cut-outs makes light and sweet treats easy to customize to your liking. With less than 10 ingredients and an easy-to-make icing, these cookies are perfect for focusing on your artistic talents.
Ingredients: Makes 5 dozen
- 1½ cups sifted powdered sugar
- 1 cup butter
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- ½ tsp. almond flavoring
- 2½ cups flour
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. cream of tartar
Cream butter and sugar. Add egg and flavorings. Mix well. Mix dry ingredients together and blend with wet ingredients. Refrigerate 1-3 hours. Heat oven to 375 degrees F. Divide dough in half and roll 3/16-inch thick on lightly floured surface. Cut out shapes and bake 7-8 minutes or until delicately golden. To make the icing, combine powdered sugar with tablespoons of milk to your desired consistency. Frost cookies and decorate with colored icing and sprinkles.
