Surfers for Autism of the Palm Beaches Returns to Juno

Surfers for Autism of the Palm BeachesOn April 30, one of the best beach parties of the year will return to Juno Beach’s Ocean Cay Park. The seventh annual Surfers for Autism of the Palm Beaches will take to the surf from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., helping reach children identified with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), using the power of the sea and a surfboard to bring out the potential of everyone involved, while raising awareness and support for advocacy groups and scientific research.

The grassroots, nonprofit organization has been holding these beach parties since 2008, growing in scope ever since, with events held around the country and even overseas. At a Surfers for Autism event, surfers identified on the spectrum, ages four and up, are accompanied by trained surf instructors who carefully guide them into waves, from where the riders and the ocean’s energy take over. The surfers are not just learning to surf, but also put into a social setting that often differs from their normal environment. The event is truly inclusive, inviting everyone to take part, from surfers and their families to volunteers and the community at large, to unlock everyone’s potential. The one-day event is not limited to an awe-inspiring afternoon in the surf, but include family-fun festivities with kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding, live music, face painting, slip and slide, and much more.
