Wine tasters from Sweden has won the fifth edition of the international blind tasting contest held in Burgundy, which is one of France’s famous Cote d’Or wine-growing region.
This year, 24 teams from all over the world took part in the competition to blind taste six types of red and six white wines. The goal of the participants was to classify each wine by country of origin, grape varieties, appellations and vintages.
Last year’s top contenders for the fourth edition of blind tasting contest were China and France. The Chinese hit the world of wine with a “thunderbolt, came in ninth, commented the organisers. And the French team who came in second, finished 11th.
“The French tasters are excellent but they are more used to tasting (French) wines.” – Denis Savarot, managing editor of La Revue du vin de France’s wine magazine and organiser of the the contest.
The Zimbabwean tasters came in 23rd for the first time in the competition.
The sixth edition of the wine contest will take place in Languedoc in France’s deep south.
