4 Types of Lipsticks for Whiter Teeth and a Brighter Smile

These are the lipstick shades to wear if you want to fake whiter teeth.
If there’s one thing that can instantly turn a look from disheveled to put together, it’s a lipstick. The power of colour is all it takes to lift spirits and confidence. What's more, the best part of it all is that it can slip right into your purse so you can be ready for any occurrence that might require a little pizzazz.
The list of magical wonders a lipstick can do is extensive, but one drawback is the wrong shade can emphasise the dullness of your teeth and that’s arguable the most undesirable physical trait. So why is it that some colours accentuate the brightness of pearly whites while others contrast differently? Apparently, it’s all in the undertones of the shade of choice.
In a quest to find the best bullets, glosses, tints and stains for whiter teeth, and an all-round brighter smile, we rounded up the colours to wear sans dentist appointment.
Blush Nudes

Charlotte Tilbury K.I.S.S.I.N.G The Duchess (HK$270)[/caption]
Nude shades are great for the natural, barely-there makeup look. But with undertones that lean towards browns and peaches, it can make teeth appear slightly yellow. Pink corals however aren’t too warm and can whiten teeth in contrast.
Blue-Based Reds
[caption id="attachment_207144" align="alignnone" width="1600"]
Fenty Stunna Lip Paint in Uncensored (HK$216)[/caption]
Every cosmetics company will have their signature brand of the classic red. But not all reds are created equal. Red lips with blue tones are the most flattering and cancel out any yellows casted on the teeth.
Purples and Plums
[caption id="attachment_207143" align="alignnone" width="1600"]
Chanel Rouge Allure Ink Fusion Rouge Noir [/caption]
Dark tones generally make teeth appear murky. Pick a vampy shade (again, one with blues) to counter the yellow. Deep berries and magenta are high contrast colours that not only brighten teeth, but also work on most skin tones.
Blues and Violets
[caption id="attachment_207148" align="alignnone" width="1600"]
Gucci Rouge à Lèvres Mat Lipstick in 606 Sophie Plum (HK$305)[/caption]
This may not work for everyday wear, but cool shades are trending this season. If there is one type of colour that is most complementary, it’s blue. Step out of your comfort zone and dare to embrace something new.

Jonathan Anderson shares the same pain of being locked down and locked in. So in “an aide-mémoire of better times to come,” the Loewe creative director partners with legendary boutique Paula’s Ibiza in a collaboration to bring back fond teenage memories spent on the Balearic island in the midst of summer. Coconut water is layered with bright green galbanum and mandarin oils, driftwood, sand lily and frangipani flowers that nod to the tropical Bohemia vibes inherent to Ibiza. Even the candy coloured gradient bottle of Loewe Paula’s Ibiza is reminiscent of summer sunsets.
Palm Springs, USA

Morocco, Africa

HK$1,850/100ml; HK$1,300/50ml[/caption]
An ode to the fantastical journeys taken by Ben Groham’s father, the founder of Byredo created Bal d’Afrique: a scent to celebrate his vision of African culture and its influence. He visits the land of the Sahara through his infatuation for the continent and blends notes of bergamot, neroli, black amber, Moroccan cedar wood and African marigold to encapsulate the cultures shaped by the art, music, dance and way of life that he relives through the diaries of his father. We can all use a little imagination and save on flight time for a quick excursion to Africa.
Jaipur, India
[caption id="attachment_207015" align="alignnone" width="1820"]
HK$1,850/100ml; HK$1,330/50ml[/caption]
India’s royal and spiritual splendour meet in Creed’s Original Santal. The romance and opulence of India has captured the attention of Oliver Creed, who then took the nation’s signature Mysore Sandalwood as the core of his fragrance. The majestic allure comes from the powerful aromas of orange tree, ginger, lemon, rosemary, peppermint, pinkberries, cedar and vanilla. Warm and robust with just a hint of spice, just like south Asia, it captures you at first and leaves you wanting to discover more.
Lake Biwa, Japan

Taking Charlotte Perriand’s passion for extensive travels, egalitarianism, a love for the wild outdoors and modernism, Aesop’s latest fragrance Rōzu is a reference to a blend of the creative muse’s lifelong affections including her love for Japan. Appealing to both genders, the fragrance opens with rich floral notes of rose, petitgrain, bergamot, shiso and pink pepper; while the heart is composed of headier florals such as ylang ylang, jasmine and guaiacwood, with hints of sandalwood, vertiver, patchouli and myrrh to end. Find yourself wandering through a Wabara rose garden off the shores of Lake Biwa by Kyoto with just a spritz.

5 Standout Hong Kong Barbershops Worth Visiting

Thankfully, Hong Kong is currently in a better position than most of the civilised world when it comes to lockdown restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Access to regular haircuts have become a privilege that many would have otherwise taken for granted.
A collective sigh of relief can be heard around the fragrant harbour that many call home, knowing that a fresh cut is still on the cards. Though most men would not like to admit that regular visits to the barber are crucial in maintaining sanity and composure, there is an abundance of truth to that statement. The process of receiving a trim will inevitably require a level of hand-to-face contact, so stay vigilant and refrain from removing your face mask if possible during the grooming session.

You can always count on head barber Ball to sharpen your look[/caption]
Best feature: convenience
Originating in the hip Haven Street in the busy Causeway Bay area, this black and white tiled shop has been serving customers for years. With a legion of loyal clients and a plethora of services available, the next logical step would be to expand the empire. With a whopping five locations in Hong Kong, including the enviable pop up space inside Lane Crawford IFC, it seems there is no slowing down this train. If one happens to wander over to Haven Street to satisfy a sweets craving, pop in to request a haircut with the very competent head barber Ball. With a roster of experienced barbers in each location, dependable skin fades and beard trims usually aren’t far away.

Best feature: ambiance
Started in 2013 by -- you guessed it -- a chap by the name of Adam Chan, this rustic shop quickly became a favourite amongst well dressed men in Hong Kong. The second shop is nestled in an urban oasis in the Admiralty area, and is hard to stumble across without knowing of its existence. What this offers is a chance to step away from the surrounding skyscrapers without venturing too far. The venue exudes a charming old Hong Kong atmosphere sparingly blended with modern sensibilities. Not one to rest on his ongoing successes, Chan also introduced a line of products under the brand ‘Fade Jai’ ranging from pomades to cold brew coffee, which for lucky customers is sometimes served whilst waiting their turn.

A grand entrance at The Mandarin Barber[/caption]
Best feature: luxury
The year is 2020 and no one should be ashamed to admit to enjoying a bit of pampering every once in a while. For those looking to truly enjoy the experience of getting a haircut or wet shave, look no further than the Art Deco drenched clubhouse situated in the historic Mandarain Oriental Hotel. Sit back and relax, and feel free to splurge on the special treatments on offer like the Shanghainese pedicure or reflexology to melt away the stress of the day. Patrons can expect flawless barbering skills from the masters at the Mandarin Barber, many of whom have even mentored up and coming barbers who have gone on to open up their own shops.

Jayme working her magic[/caption]
Best feature: value
This cosy shop does not receive the attention it deserves. Tucked away on the first floor of a nondescript building near Kau U Fong, the quaint barbershop has everything it needs -- namely three very capable hair wizards. Resident barber Jayme has a confident but gentle touch when it comes to trimming beards with a razor, and is able to create soft angles to enhance the jawlines of customers. Given the central location of the store, it is perhaps surprising that very reasonable prices are offered. Come for the haircut and shave, but stay for the old school arcade game stationed next to the door.

Best feature: service
Walking into Too Far East Barber & Co. is an experience unlike any other. Customers are greeted with a choice of beer or bottled highballs. The friendly atmosphere is welcoming and feels like a place where people from all walks of life -- from besuited bankers to tattooed artists -- can come to hang out (and get a haircut). The furnishings are simple yet impactful, with much of the decor paying tribute to the bygone era of Shanghainese-style traditional barbers. Of course, the services here are also excellent. Cuts strike a pleasing middleground between hyper stylised rockabilly pompadours and timeless military inspired fades rooted in functionality.
