Make Waves in Lamborghini’s HK$26 Million New Yacht

Lamborghini didn’t always make supercars.

The company was founded in the years following World War II, and built tractors and agricultural machinery, as well as oil burners and air-conditioners. Indeed, the man behind it, one Ferruccio Lamborghini, only decided to start making cars after a spat with Enzo Ferrari spurred him to try and beat Italy’s most famous manufacturer of high-performance automobiles by taking him on at his own game.

Perhaps even less well-known is the fact that Lamborghini also produced marine engines, massively powerful motors that for a while became de rigueur in offshore powerboat racing. Based on the company’s famous road-car V12, they were so successful that they won several world and European titles.

The recent announcement of the Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63 high-performance yacht is therefore not quite the radical departure for the car maker as it might sound. The vessel, which was designed jointly by the carmaker’s Centro Stile department and the Italian Sea Group, has a lightweight hull made from carbon fibre and similar advanced composite materials for which Lamborghini has built itself an enviable reputation.

Style-wise, the Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63 is inspired by Lamborghini supercars both past and current (the limited-edition Sián FKP 37 hypercar is one evident influence), with a profusion of hexagons inside the boat and out, and even Y-shape lights at the sharp end. As its name suggests, it’s 63 feet (19.2 metres) long and will be built in a limited number of, you guessed it, 63 units (the numbers reference the date – 1963 – when Ferruccio established his auto business). It’s powered by a pair of V12 motors that together produce around 4,000 horsepower, a prodigious output that, we’re told, gives the 24-tonne yacht a maximum speed in the range of 60 knots, a formidable clip that in landlubber speak is in excess of 110km/h.

Naturally like any road-going Lamborghini, the sky’s virtually the limit when it comes to personalisation possibilities, which can be undertaken by the company’s Ad Personam operation. Even in the unlikely event that you opt to leave your Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63 in bog-standard condition, you’ll still be forking out a hefty heap of wedge for the privilege, though we suspect that for many prospective owners the HK$26.2 million (€3 million) price tag is likely to be the merest drop in the ocean.
