Say it ain’t so! Less than six months after Tana Mongeau and Jake Paul said “I do,” the YouTubers announced they’re “taking a break.”
“OK I don’t rly [sic] know how to do a ‘we’re taking a break’ post and this is weird as f–k … ” Tana admitted on Instagram on January 2. “I’m happy to still be able to sit with Jake and laugh as we do this — but for right now, we both are taking a break to focus on our own very crazy lives … ” She continued the lengthy post, “I’ll never know what the future holds and I will always love Jake and everything we did. I’m grateful to know throughout this I’ve made a best friend for life and found someone to do life with when no one understood me.”
Luckily, it sounds like the 21-year-old has a sense of humor. “Here’s to 2020, working on us and my new Lamborghini since I get half of everything! No need for crazy speculations — this is coming from a place of nothing but love. I love u [sic], Jakey. Thank u [sic] for this past year.”
Jake, 22, took to his own Instagram account and said, “As Tana and I sit next to each other writing captions about taking a break we’re literally laughing at how crazy and stupid the past couple months have been and cracking jokes at how silly this all seems. I’m keeping custody of Thor but Tana, unfortunately, gets my Lamborghini,” he laughed.
“I wouldn’t change anything that happened. We’re best friends and right now it’s best for us to focus on our lives and see what the future holds. (P.S. our friends started playing sad music while we were writing these captions and we all started laughing our asses off … this is bittersweet but it’s what’s best for us right now). The last thing we wanna [sic] see is fan pages speculating ‘what happened.’ We truly just need a second to focus on our own lives and ourselves. Luv u [sic], Mongeau <3.”
The duo tied the knot at the Graffiti Mansion in Las Vegas on Sunday, July 28. Although , Tana and Jake very much appeared to be a couple. “It’s the best day of my life,” Jake told Life & Style exclusively after walking down the aisle.
Unfortunately, that was hardly the case for Tana. “The second that Jake and I got married, I just feel like everything changed,” the MTV reality star admitted. “The wedding night was just hell for me.”
Days before announcing their split on December 29, Tana took to the platform that made her a star to address everything she’s been bottling up, including the status of her relationship. “ , it’s my fault, too. I wanted to be the cool girlfriend that he never had for him because I cared about him so much, but I let that, like, destroy me,” she explained. “I feel like when I thought of an open relationship with him, I thought of it as, like, us, a team. Occasionally, we both might hook up with other people and eventually, we would maybe be monogamous, but that was me, looking at that through rose-colored glasses.”
Here’s hoping 2020 is the fresh start the two need to either get back on track or break up for good. (We hope it’s the former)!
