Tangerine (Magnolia Pictures; Blu-ray, DVD; 88 minutes; Rated R) Hollywood sex worker Sin-Dee (newcomer Kitana Kiki Rodriguez) is fresh out of jail and going after her pimp boyfriend Chester (James Ransone, STARLET, “Generation Kill”) for allegedly being unfaithful during her lock-up. She and her best friend, sex worker Alexandra (newcomer Mya Taylor), encounter many problematic episodes as they search for the truth about Chester.
Review: 4 Buckets of Popcorn (for treating transgender people with respect). Taylor deservedly won the Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Female for her multi-layered performance. Director Sean Baker did an excellent job of penning themes that transcend sexual orientation.
