If you’ve set foot in Sephora, a drugstore or anywhere near a cosmetics counter lately, chances are you’ve been bombarded by a bewildering array of new products which boast names with only initials, such as BB and CC. The alphabet formulations–like BB cream, CC cream, and soon DD creams–have joined tinted moisturizers and standard foundation on the shelves as potential skin-perfecting options. These new beauty buys promise to multitask on your skin, promising to prime, hydrate, protect, and perfect. But what do they all really do? What’s the difference between them? And most importantly: Which should you use? I did some research and figured out what the new rage is all about.
BB Cream
The BB cream craze first caught on in East Asia, where they’re referred to as blemish balms, blemish bases, or beauty balms. Here in the United States, we call them beauty balms too. We’re a little surprised this muti-tasking, all-in-one wonder product only recently became hot on the U.S. market, but now that it is, we’re major fans. Where else can you find a moisturizer, primer, sunscreen, and foundation all in one handy tube?
CC Cream
The difference between BB and CC creams is subtle–CC stands for “Color Correcting or Color Control” – I ike to think of the CC cream as an advanced, refined version of the BB cream. It’s not necessarily better than BB cream, but whether you choose a CC or a BB depends on your personal skincare needs. CC creams are a perfect choice for evening out skin tone and diminishing redness. They’re also known for being ultra-blendable if you choose to wear additional makeup.
DD Cream
Just when you thought you had it all covered with BB and CC creams, a new one hits the market! Beauty brand Julep is the first we’ve heard of to launch a DD cream, or “Dynamic Do-All,” which promises to tackle signs of aging while diminishing fine lines, balancing uneven skin tone and protecting delicate areas of the face.
So, with every alphabetical variation there now is, most likely there is one new beauty product that fits your individual beauty needs. For a huge selection and even more information, shop www.sephora.com
