Iconic Italian design house Pininfarina SpA, known for designing decades of sleek Ferraris, is finally putting its name on the hood of a bespoke range of electric vehicles as Automobili Pininfarina.
The design house has been acquired by Indian automaker Mahindra & Mahindra a few years ago and is headquartered in Europe. Pininfarina has showcased several concept electric vehicles at this year’s Geneva Motor Show, spiking much interest and anticipation.
Now, Automobili Pininfarina is finally releasing its own luxury electric cars, with Pininfarina’s years of experience in designing cars as well as Mahindra’s expertise from its role in the Formula E championship, The Italian design firm will be designing, engineering and manufacturing its first electric hypercar production.
Codenamed PF-Zero, it willfeature Level 3 autonomy capable of hitting 62 mph (100 km/h) from a standing start in less than two seconds, while 186 mph (300 km/h) will be achieved in 12 seconds on the way to a top speed exceeding 248 mph (400 km/h). According to Autocar, the all-electric hypercar will use modular underpinnings co-developed by Rimac and Mahindra’s Formula E Team.
“The Mahindra Group has bet big on electric vehicles.” Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra says. “They are the future, and when power, beauty and high-end EV technology come together in one car – that will be the perfect luxury vehicle, that will give car lovers the freedom to roam without impacting the planet adversely.”
The hypercar is set to arrive in 2020, priced close to $2.5 million.
