The Art of Balancing: Asmita Chakraborty

For Asmita Chakraborty, First Runners-up, Glamanand Supermodel India and Miss Tourism India 2021, becoming a model or participating in beauty pageants were never on her career card. It only happened when she was in the tenth grade and she saw Manushi Chhillar bringing glory and pride to the nation and that’s when she decided to  give it a shot and here she is, working hard to be the next face of the nation. In a quick chat with TMM, she talks about everything that is important in the glamour industry.

How and when did modeling happen to you?
I was always an academically sound student, who always dreamt of gold medals, and winning a crown was never on my list of passions. However, people always used to tell me that I have that face and height to become a model and even participate in beauty pageants. I remember I was in tenth grade when I saw Manushi Chhillar on the television screen wishing the crown for India and I got goosebumps. I guess it was nature’s signal that I should think about it and slowly things fell into place and here I am!

What makes an individual a ‘good model’?
To be ‘good’ at what you do, it is necessary to have that passion that pushes you every single day to become better than before. And I believe the same rule applies to be a good model. While for others it’s just a shot or a walk, but to be a good model it requires a lot to be in place. And to make it happen you need to have that fire within you because, at the end of the day, that is all matters.

Share a glimpse of what all went into preparation for Glamanand Supermodel India.
What I experienced in the 9 days of the pageant is going to be cherished for life, but to make it happen I had to soak myself in hard work and dedication for more than 365 days. While physical fitness is surely a key part of the preparation, for me, mental fitness was even more important and for that I made sure to invest time in reading positive content, meditate, and also indulge in constructive thinking. Apart from that I kept a check on national and international happenings, practiced ramp walk, and most importantly, looked into the mirror every day and said- Yes, I can do it!

For every model, being fit is very important. What is your fitness routine?
Due to the pandemic, it was slightly shaken during the early days, but when you know the purpose is bigger, you do everything to make it happen. So, I started following my workout routine at home and made sure to invest at least 45 minutes every day. Apart from that diet control played a key role, because that is where we all get weak, especially when you are at home 24*7.

One good thing and one bad thing about being a model.
This world of glamour and hard work gives you a platform to work for the underprivileged and also gives you the chance to travel and understand how things work in life. I feel that travelling also makes you a better human being. As far as the dark side of the industry is concerned, constantly being in the public eyes and criticism may make you conscious and uncomfortable too. The best thing to do is, just focus on your work and let your work speak for you.

Modeling calls for hectic work hours. How do you create a balance between your work and personal life?
For me, more than work-life balance, it had been about studies, work, and life balance. And for that, the credit goes to my college, the teams I work with, and my family. They altogether have made me walk through this and I made sure that I gave my 100 percent in everything that I did till date. Going forward, I will make sure to maintain this balance and achieve my dream of winning the crown.

When it comes to your beauty regime, one desi nuskha you swear by and why?
I have seen my grandmother and mother using the combination of milk, saffron, and turmeric to moisturize their skin. And with time, I have inherited this regular routine, as the combination keeps my skin soft and radiant as well. While girls of my age often indulge in beauty products, I try to opt for natural home remedies, because they are time-tested and have zero side effects.

What are your future plans in the modeling industry?
For now, my focus is on the international pageant and start preparing for it. Apart from that, I also want to finish my education, so that I am sound enough to move ahead and make wiser choices in life and make the most of every opportunity and give my best.\
