The art of caring with i-protect

Necessity is the mother of invention and i-protect is a sheer result of the same, when the pandemic called for ‘Stay Home Save Lives’. In a nutshell, the thought of I protect you, you protect me, resulted in the birth of the term i-protect.

While using medical-grade P.P.E was not feasible and should have been reserved for medical and front line heroes, hence, i-protect looked solely into fabric masks and antimicrobial fabric for protective garments. Having researched several studies and recommendations for the right fabric masks –i-protect decided to focus on two fabrics, Denim and Hemp.

i-protect purposefully chose Denim as the fabric for masks for both adults and kids.  According to the Smart Air studies, denim is in the top 5 recommended material choice, for its ability to be breathable and its filtration effectiveness. Their handmade double layer masks are of 120 gsm denim, with a filter pocket. They have men’s masks that have a wider coverage area, women’s masks are all either embroidered or have vintage appliqués. The kid’s masks are also embroidered with a general theme we like to call the animal collection.

The Hemp masks are a sign of joy and pride. The masks are made of fabric milled from hemp grown in India and these masks are made by the women of Uttarakhand along with the help of the Hemp Foundation of India. Hemp fabric is extraordinary, the irregular hollow core of hemp fabric is unique as it helps to trap particles and microbes which make this a perfect choice for non-medical face masks, as they are naturally antibacterial, have natural antimicrobial and anti-fungal properties. They are not only naturally resistant to mold & mildew; they also have the ability to protect you from harmful UV-A and UV-B sun rays. Hemp is very strong and durable; in fact, it is three times stronger than cotton, so you can be certain that your mask will be able to stand the test of time. One of the strongest reasons for focusing on hemp is that it is also biodegradable. According to the recent environmental studies around the world an estimated 100 + billion disposable face masks and 60 + billion gloves are discarded improperly and many end up in our oceans and lands that can take hundreds of years to disintegrate.  These masks have been made from Indian hemp, grown organically; they are completely chemical-free.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), face shields, N95 face masks, and gloves have become the “new normal’, however, one certainly cannot keep buying medical PPE for everyday errands or travel, which is when the idea of the jacket transpired.  What can one wear that has a good barrier of protection from droplets or bacteria? Having spent a couple of months researching, getting in touch with many manufacturers, i-protect discovered fabrics coated with Hydrophobic Nanotechnology. On further research, they found that hydrophobic fabric does indeed create a dry barrier to external particles. The fabric for jackets has been infused with nanoparticles. The advantages of these jackets are many, they are water repellent, anti-microbial, anti-droplet, low on maintenance, and abrasion resistant too.

The fabric has been tested and passed the En 14126, as well as the ISO 16603 test.

i-protect never claims that the products are of medical grade, but they do assure that several steps have been taken to create quality products for your safety and protection.
