The thought of being in public toilets, being surrounded by filth and grim may make you run miles away. But, there’s a particular spot in central London where the former public toilet has turned into the flagship store for The Attendant. It’s the place to go for Australian brunches, healthy salads, sandwiches and delicious coffee. In Australia people are big coffee drinkers the Attendant coffee doesn’t mess around it is simply top-notch. Every sip you can smell the roasted beans aroma and strong delicious taste of the green beans.

Much of the former Victorian gentleman’s convenience interior still remains, at The Attendant in Fitzrovia. Going down the stairs you find a basement with a counter that sells, beans, reusable coffee cups, a cabinet of healthy pressed juices and soft drinks. Sit in between the porcelain toilet urinal cubicles, for your food and coffee with room still to chat with another person. The Attendant does a wonderful lunch combo of half of wither the salad/sandwich/soup/tart for £8. I went for the salad and sandwich; it came out with nice tableware.

The bowl of salad is from their market bowl that changes every day. Filled with quinoa, grilled aubergine, pulses dressed in a light sauce. My sandwich choice was the Bombay club, filled with a green looking tandoori chicken; maple-cured crispy bacon, vine tomatoes, baby gem lettuce, and ginger mayo. I love how this was not your bog-standard café sandwich, the flavours and texture were thought out making it very tasty and enjoyable.

attendant lunch combo It is a tiny place and can get packed during weekday lunchtime hours. If you can’t sit in to drink your coffee or tea then make it you’re mission to take out their coffee. Price can be a lot more than a normal budget food and drinks were around the £14 mark.
